WHAT IS THE VARIETY SHOW?
The variety show consists of five or six acts (“Main Act”) of 15-20 kids based on the theme, think Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Bolton’s 300 Birthday, with several additional acts (2-4 kids) that tie the theme together (“In Between Act”).
Your child(ren) will be assigned to a Main Act based on their age and siblings in December. Their Main Act group will begin practicing with their assigned coaches in January. Practices are usually once a week at the school and will be based on your coaches availability (after school or during early evening hours, no weekends). The practices usually run anywhere from one hour to one and a half hours. Your child(ren) can choose at what level they want to participate in their Main Act, no one is forced to do anything they don’t feel comfortable doing.
In addition to their Main Act, you may also sign your child up for one (1) In Between Act of either speaking or singing or dancing. They will be placed in another group for this. Your child(ren) will be given either a script, music or a dance routine that will need to be coached by one or more of the parents of the child(ren) in that act. However, we are available to assist in this matter. We do meet with the dancers and show them the dance moves. We also meet with the singers to ensure proper pitch on the karaoke track as well.
WHY PARTICIPATE IN THE VARIETY SHOW?
It certainly makes the winter go by quicker. Just think it will be April when this is all said and done! It also gives your child(ren) the opportunity to be on stage and learn how to project their voices and build their confidence. They also get a chance to be with their classmates outside of the classroom. We have kids in high school still begging to come back and participate in the show!
WHY ARE SOME DATES MANDATORY FOR THE VARIETY SHOW?
It takes our tech team several tries to get the show together and it takes everyone to have the act in place. One person missing can cause our tech crew confusion. We realize that there are exceptions that can be accommodated and emergencies do happen.
April 20 - tech rehearsal (1 hour)
April 22 - tech rehearsal (1 1/2 hours)
April 24 - full dress rehearsal (usually 3 hours. This is the longest day, and it is the only chance the kids get to see the other acts. However, you can grab your child(ren) at any point after they are on stage if this night is too long for you!)
April 26 - show night 6pm - 8:30pm
April 27 - show night 3pm - 5:30pm
