Playscape Info

This page will be updated periodically to keep you informed about the progress being made to improve the playscape at Bolton Center School -- and how you can help.

NEW INFO FIRST! ...

The PTA playground committee is well on its way! It is in the process  of meeting with vendors, comparing prices and researching various aspects of playground components. If you are interested in joining the committee or would like more information about the playground project or about any o f the upcoming fund raisers,  please  contact Julie Begin at jrbegin@yahoo.com. The first phase of the playground project involves obtaining swings for the children as soon as possible. Provided the duns can be raise by the end of the school year, the swings will be installed this summer. This goal is highly attainable, but we need the assistance of our great Bolton community. Please support the project by attending the following Playground committee fund-raisers and/or by sending cash donations. Donation checks should be made payable to Julie Begin (memo: Playground fund) and mailed to Bolton PTA, c/o Julie Begin,11 Daria Drive, Bolton, CT 06043.

An Overview of the Playscape Efforts

As the existing Bolton Center School playscape ages, it has required increased maintenance and in some instances removal of components that have become unsafe or too costly to replace.

A Playscape Committee (part of the BCS PTA) has been formed and has begun gathering information to learn more about the school community's interest in replacing the current playscape.

A questionnaire was sent out last year to the school community and will be re-distributed this year. So far the response has been supportive, and thus, the Committee Chairs have met with the Board of Education, Town, and PTA to discuss plans to replace the playscape.

Over the next month, the Committee Chairs will meet with vendors to obtain plans and costs. Upon obtaining a better understanding of the scope of the project, including costs, work plan, timeline of events, and feasibility, sub-committees need to be formed.

Because there are so many areas of concern and responsibilities involved in bringing this to fruition, the Committee has identified three key functions.

  • Lisa Bosco will be overseeing the function of contacting vendors and researching equipment.

  • Jenny Norris will be drafting and devising the business plan, with assistance from others.

  • Julie Begin is leading the fundraising duties.

All of these very dedicated individuals are looking for assistance and would greatly appreciate your time and input. Please don't wait until the playground is completed to voice your opinion. Share it now, and make this happen for all of our children as soon as possible.

Funding for replacing the playscape is anticipated to come from PTA fundraisers, grants, donations, and requests for governmental funding, including federal funding that may be available.

Regular monthly Committee meetings are being held. Everyone is welcome. Please join us! For more information about meetings or to volunteer to help, contact Lisa Bosco at 649-5983 or slramb2@comcast.net.

And Now to Begin Raising Those Funds...

Currently the Committee Chairs are seeking an individual to run the fundraising program known as SCRIPT, where people have the opportunity to purchase gift cards and a percent of the value of the card is donated directly back to our organization. It requires the processing of paperwork every two weeks, the collection of monies and the distribution of gift cards. Anyone who might be interested, please contact Julie Begin at 647-9710 or jrbegin@yahoo.com.
