Events:
8th Grade Class Night
& Promotion
The night before graduation, the
PTA sponsors a special, festive evening for students to celebrate and
reminisce with their classmates. The next day, a promotion celebration is
help in the All
Purpose Room immediately following graduation. 7th grade parents provide
food and refreshments and work hard to make this a great celebration.
Book Fair
Sponsored by Scholastic Books, this is one of the PTAs
most beloved fundraisers. A variety of books and other reading materials are
on display for one week in the school library so that individual classrooms
can visit the fair during
school hours. Students can make purchases with their parents permission. The fair
is also held during the evening, so parents can visit and make purchases with their
children.
Camp Fair and Ice Cream Social
Representatives from numerous
camps, museums, and clubs that provide educational and/or recreational
opportunities for children in the summer months fill the school gym as
they present information and exciting, interactive displays and
demonstrations. At the same time, teachers, school administrators, and
parent volunteers serve ice cream sundaes in the All Purpose Room. This is
a terrific evening of family fun and information encouraging our school
community to gather and "get a taste of summer" as they explore
opportunities and enjoy ice cream.
Staff Luncheon
This welcome-back luncheon is sponsored by the PTA and held just prior
to the first day of school, in order to express our appreciation for all
staff members, teachers, custodians, administrators, and the Board of
Education. BCS students help to decorate and serve the lunch each year, adding to the celebration and
excitement.
Variety Show
Each spring, the BCS PTA proudly presents the Variety Show. This production,
which has become a major event in Bolton, plays to standing-room-only crowds for two
consecutive nights. Volunteers are need in these areas: assistant coaches, choreographers,
sewing costumes, painting sets, building props, making phone calls, computer work, selling
tickets. This is a wonderful experience for our students. Your assistance can help us
keep these productions going!
If you'd like to
help with any of these, please contact
a PTA officer or send

Services:
Books For Bolton
This program supports the growth of our
school's library collection by soliciting donations of books that can be
inscribed with a bookplate message to recognize special occasions such as a
child's birthday or milestone. Through this program, the BCS School Library
Media Center has increased its book collection by more than 2,000 titles,
thank to the generosity of parents, relatives, friends, and the BCS staff.
Donations
to Each BCS Teacher
Annually, the BCS PTA donates approximately $100 to each teacher at the Center School
to use, as they deem appropriate, for their individual classroom needs and curriculum. In
the past, some teachers have pooled the funds to purchase valuable items such as computer
software, digital cameras, and weekly reading publications.
Kidsfirst Newsletter
Our Kidsfirst newsletter is published every other month throughout the school year
(five issues). The goal of this
free and very informative newsletter is to share PTA information with members. Articles
concerning PTA-sponsored events are always welcome.
Purchase of Playground Equipment
The PTA purchases equipment for BCS students to use and
enjoy during outside recess such as kick balls, soccer balls, and hula hoops. The sports
equipment is stored in the cafeteria, allowing students easy access.
School Calendar
& Notepads
The PTA publishes a calendar each year with all important school-related dates,
half-days and vacation days, and much more. Volunteers are needed in these areas:
coordination between school administration, PTA leadership and school staff to secure
school event dates; coordinate with Art Department to obtain student art work for
calendar; determine school-observed holidays, and work with local businesses for
advertising. The PTA calendar is a useful organizational tool that
contains important school-related dates such as
half-days and vacation days, special events, and much more. The calendar
contains artwork by our students and advertisements from local businesses.
Home-to-school memo pads are a quick and convenient way to communicate with
teachers about special arrangements regarding dismissal, appointments, etc.
School Directories
The PTA publishes two directories, one for Bolton Center School and one for
Bolton High School. The directories list classes by teacher name and/or
grade, and include the names of all students by homeroom and/or grade.
Parents are invited to provide their names, home address and
phone number. An excellent resource for parents and students in the event you need to call
another parent or fellow student.
Teacher Appreciation
Teacher Appreciation Week is celebrated the first full week in May. The Principal, Student
Council, The Board of Education and the PTA arrange special tokens of appreciation for
teachers each day of the week.
If you'd like to
help with any of these, or for more information, please contact
a PTA officer or send
us an e-mail.

within their curriculums and areas of study. The committee also runs the Read-a-thon
each March, as well as family week activities. The Reflections program,
sponsored annually by the National PTA, is a great opportunity for students
to demonstrate their artistic and literary talents in a contest format.
Legislative/Advocacy Committee
This committee helps to share information with PTA members regarding the town and school budgets,
town meetings and referendums, state and federal education-related legislation, and
anything else that may have an impact on education in Bolton. Volunteers help write and
distribute informational flyers, stuff and stamp envelopes for mailing, make reminder
phone calls prior to referendums, and more.
Membership Committee
This committee is responsible for promoting and growing PTA membership to parents,
teachers, businesses, and community members. The committee also provides
refreshments and child care for members during PTA meetings and coordinates
one or more parents per classroom to assist teachers in planning parties and
class activities.
Public Relations/Publicity
Committee

activities via newspapers, cable, and flyers. The committee shares
information with members via the PTA website and through the Kidsfirst
newsletter.
Ways & Means Committee
This committee is responsible for fundraising for the
PTA in order to generate the resources needed to advance the general work of
the PTA and fund special spirit events such as opening-day festivities,
parties, and social events for the school community. The PTA raises funds
through one or two events each year, such as the sale of high-quality
wrapping paper and Munson's chocolates. Additionally, we participate in the
"Box Tops for Education" program, which has generated thousands of
dollars for our school.
